History The breed was developed in Ireland several hundred years ago. They were developed as a farm vermin controller and companion, roles at which it excels. It is important to note that although this is a dog with a soft, fluffy coat, the breed was developed from working stock and with working purposes in mind. It is indeed a faithful companion, but if not actively working as a farm dog/vermin controller, etc, it needs to be given ample stimulation - such as daily play, walks and so on. The breed is not a "layabout" type dog and needs to be treated accordingly. |
Positives The dog is a playful larrikin - and still a good vermin controller to boot! They love to interact and play with their family, and are good companions for active children |
Negatives The breed must be given the opportunity to run and play outside on a regular basis, otherwise can become bored and destructive. Their exercise needs are not suitable for every family. |
